Common Questions about Telehealth
We know that online therapy can bring up understandable hesitations and questions. We are happy to put your mind at ease and provide further information about what to expect.
How Does it Work and What Do I need to Participate?
Clients will need both audio and visual abilities on their device (microphone & camera). Clients should feel comfortable with technology, they’ll need access to an internet connection with good bandwidth. If you can reliably watch movies on your phone or computer from a streaming service, then most likely you what they need to connect with us. Our integrated HIPAA compliant program allows you to easily connect to your therapy sessions via your CLIENT PORTAL.
Are My Sessions Confidential?
YES! Our therapists have all completed the required Washington State Mandated Telehealth Training and have been fully trained in our HIPAA protocols. Emmaus therapists maintain strict confidentiality standards for your protection and all our sessions are held in real time and cannot be recorded. Virtual sessions work the same way face-to-face therapy sessions but are conducted via our EMR HIPAA compliant secure client portal/platform.
For our virtual clients, we understand that finding a private space at home or in the office to hold your session can be tricky at times. We recommend that clients try using headphones, take a walk, or sitting in their car. Anywhere you feel is private and safe.
Do I Need to Be in Washington State to Have a Session?
Yes. Therapists are restricted by their licensure and liability insurance requirements to only hold sessions with clients physically located in the state they hold their licensure at the time of the session.
Can I Use My Insurance?
Most healthcare plans provide coverage for telehealth just like in-office therapy however, insurance company policies are changing, and many benefits are plan specific therefore we highly recommend that you check directly with your carrier to be sure you’re covered for virtual behavioral health therapy.
