Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychotherapy treatment that is designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories.

At Emmaus Counseling Center, our skilled therapists deliver personalized EMDR sessions tailored to individual needs.”

EMDR therapy enables people to benefit from psychotherapy more quickly than traditional methods, challenging the assumption that emotional pain requires years to heal. Just as the body heals physical wounds once obstacles are removed, EMDR therapy helps the mind recover from psychological trauma when mental blocks are addressed.

The brain naturally seeks mental health; if disrupted by trauma, this process stalls, causing ongoing distress. EMDR therapy uses structured protocols to help clients restore their natural healing.

EMDR uses an eight-phase protocol where the therapist and client work together to safely address traumatic memories. Unlike hypnosis, clients stay alert and aware during each session. As therapy progresses, many people find that their troubling memories become less intense emotionally, helping them reflect on their past with more calm, confidence, and strength.
