How We Can Help

Nearly all of us, from time to time, experience what might be called “psychological unsteadiness.”  You may feel depressed, angry, or stressed and you may not be sure why you feel this way.

More important, you may need help with finding solutions.  At Emmaus, we’re here to assist you, provide support, and help you discover ways to heal and resolve whatever issues are present in your life.

"Walking Together"
The Center's name "Emmaus" is taken from the name of a townoutside Jerusalem.  Following Jesus' crucifixion, two of his disciples were walking home to the town of Emmaus.  The two disciples were in deep anguish and pain when a “stranger” they met along the way comforted them as they "walked together" on their journey home.

Emmaus was founded on this image of
"walking together" with our clients on their journey of self discovery and healing.
One aspect that makes Emmaus unique is our therapists' backgrounds, religious beliefs, and their ability to meet the vast needs of client's who are seeking a place where Christian faith and values are respected as well as many other faiths.  Each of our therapists are unique individuals and therefore, have been selected for their own distinctive approaches to therapy.  Everyone, however, shares the value of "walking with their clients".

Because each of our clients are unique, our therapists offer an exciting and varied approach for each of their clients.

Types of Therapy Offered
Our approach to counseling will vary, depending upon the issues to be resolved and your needs. Our counseling approach, then, may include, but is not limited to the following:

If you have questions about our any of our therapeutic approaches, please ask us.

We do not promise any particular outcome of treatment. However, we do promise to use our best efforts and to perform all of our services for you in a professionally competent manner. The length of treatment hinges on such factors as the severity and duration of the problem as well as the motivation and cooperation of the client. Sometimes, we use vocational and/or personality tests to facilitate the counseling process.

You may also want us to outline a proposed course of treatment. If this is important to you, let us know. In general, however, we find that it is not always helpful to try to figure out in advance where we are headed, since therapy by its very nature is a process of new discoveries.
