Ready to Get Started?
At Emmaus, we understand that entering into psychotherapy can be a
scary step in one's life. With that in mind, we have tried to make
that step as comfortable as possible.
Many people have
questions when they consider therapy and we have tried to
outline the steps involved in scheduling your initial
appointment and getting started on your journey.
All initial appointments are scheduled
ONLY with our specialized Intake Coordinators or
you may request an initial appointment where we will
respond to your inquiry as soon as possible. If you need to
speak with us immediately, please call us. If your call is
not answered by them personally this means that they are on
another line or not available at that moment, please leave a
message and you will receive a return call from them as soon as
possible.

New Client Information & Forms
Once you have scheduled your appointment, you will need to
fill
out our new client forms. You can do this one of two ways:
either download our forms available in .pdf format, fill them
out and bring the completed forms with you to your first session
or please arrive 10-15 minutes earlier for your first
session to complete the forms located in the
Center's entry. Please hand your completed forms
and co-pay (if applicable) to the therapist at the beginning of
the session.
What to Expect
Your first psychotherapy session is usually a time for the
therapist to gather information about you. The therapist may ask
you to fill out forms about your current and past physical and
emotional health. All of this information helps the therapist
gain a deeper understanding of your situation. It might take a
few sessions for your therapist to fully understand your
situation and concerns and to determine the best approach or
course of action.
The first session is also an opportunity for you to interview
your therapist to see if his or her approach and personality are
going to work for you.
Make sure you understand:
-
His or her approach or type of therapy
-
What type of therapy is appropriate for you
-
The goals of your treatment
-
How many therapy sessions you may need
At any time during therapy, especially in the beginning, don't
hesitate to ask the therapist questions.
Because a great deal of care and attention has been given to you
before your appointment, new clients at Emmaus usually remain
seeing that therapist and find a good fit between themselves and
their therapist. Sometimes, however, a client may feel that
another therapist would be more helpful and in those situations,
we ask the client to please communicate this to their therapist
and to contact our schedulers to assist you with any changes
that might be necessary.
Our therapists are among the most respected in the area and have
been hand selected by Dr. Wemhoff, Clinic Founder/Director.
Please know that Dr. Wemhoff is always open to speaking with you
regarding your care and experience at Emmaus.
