Entering into psychotherapy can be a scary step in one's life. At Emmaus, we have tried to make that step as comfortable as possible. Here's how to get started:
- Contact our Administrative Assistants, Ann, Michele or Sheila at (425) 869-2644, ext.0 for both Redmond and Bothell. If your call is not answered by them personally this means that they are on another line or not available at that moment, please leave a message and you will receive a return call from them as soon as possible or within two hours as appropriate.
- As you talk to Ann, Michele or Sheila, they will ask for the following information: name, phone numbers, date of birth, social security number or insurance identification number, who is referring you, reason for your wanting to be seen at Emmaus Counseling Center, and your preference for a male or a female counselor.
If you'd like to explore for yourself before you speak to Sheila or Michelles whom at Emmaus might work the best for you, please visit the therapists via "Our Therapists" listing on this page. Please note, however, that assignments of a definite therapist and scheduling can only be done by Ann, Michele or Sheila after they have verified insurance, checked on a therapist's availability and, as necessary, clarified with you what your specific needs are. In some cases, they will also confer with the clinical director before scheduling to make sure that your needs are best served.
- After scheduling, you will need to fill out some necessary forms. You can do this one of two ways: either click on the "Forms" link, fill them out and bring the completed forms with you to your first session or please arrive at your first session 10-15 minutes early to complete the forms.
- Now you will meet with your assigned therapist for the first time. Because a great deal of care and attention has been given to you before your appointment, new clients at Emmaus Counseling Center usually remain seeing that therapist and find a good fit between themselves and their therapist. Sometimes, however, a client may feel that another therapist would be more helpful and in those situations, we ask the client to please, communicate this to the therapist and/or to contact Ann, Michele and/or Shiela to assist with any changes that might be necessary. And remember, it is your therapy and you can end it at anytime. We ask that you please do your best to communicate your decisions regarding your therapy with your therapist at each appropriate time. And please know also , that our goals for therapy are your goals.
