Many people have questions when they consider therapy and we have tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions below.  Please call us for any additional answers you may be looking for.

How do I get started seeing someone at Emmaus Counseling?
  • Your first step is to contact our schedulers, who will note all the necessary information, including the issue for which you are seeking treatment, how you were referred to Emmaus and she will ask you for your insurance information.  For a more detailed explanation, please see "Getting Started".

What are the specialties of the therapists at Emmaus?
  •  Emmaus Counseling has a variety of practitioners, each therapist has experience in a wide range of specialties. We work with children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients whose mental health issues range from relatively uncomplicated adjustment disorders to chronic mental illness.  How quickly can I be seen by a therapist?
  • A commitment that Emmaus has made over the years to potential clients is that they will be seen in a timely manner. You can usually expect to be seen within 1-10 days depending on you and your preferred therapist's schedule. However, if an emergency exists, please call 911 or call the Crisis Clinic at 1.800.244.5767 or 206.461.3222.

What are those initials behind each therapist’s name like;
LMHC, LMFT, LSW, CMHS, ACSW, and BC-AT?
  • These initials indicate licensing information for each therapist.

  • LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor)

  • LMFT (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist)

  • LSW (Licensed Social Worker)

  • CMHS (Child Mental Health Specailist)

  • ACSW (Academy of Certified Social Workers)

  • BC-AT (Board Certified Art Therapist)

Where can I be seen by a therapist?
  • Emmaus Counseling Center has four convenient locations including; two in Bellevue - North Bellevue (2200 112th Avenue NE, Suite 140), Bellevue Careage Building in the Bellefield Office Park (1400 112th Avenue SE, Suite 100), downtown Redmond (8290 165th Ave NE), and downtown Bothell (10116 Main Street).

Will my insurance pay for mental health treatment and
what are the costs to me for seeing a therapists?
  • The therapists at Emmaus are credentialed by most major insurance carriers and managed care organizations. The vast majority of clients who visit Emmaus use their health insurance. If you are interested in the specifics of your benefit plan, please contact your insurance company to check on your "outpatient mental health benefits". Our schedulers will verify your plan with your insurance company and will let you know if you need to obtain authorization from your insurance company, the amount of your co-pay or co-insurance portion, and the number of sessions available. In addition, they will inform you should there be an extremely high deductible that has not yet been met.

    Applicable co-pays, co-insurance portions, and deductibles are collected at the time of service unless you have made alternative arrangements with your therapist.
